Was posting in a RPT, but was told to make my own thread cause I was spamming so here it goes. Went to Hong Kong for a few weeks.

All shot on a Asahi/Pentax f2.0 50mm Prime Lens.

All critiques/comments/tips welcome. This is the first batch of photos I ever took that wasn't on a cellphone.

It certainly feels like that, as well as a feeling of despair much like a Gregory Crewdson photo.

I also think that the dust, scratches and lack of care of the film really help reinforce those tones, kinda like a physical metaphor of the grittiness of the city...

Perhaps try shooting with some Cinestill 800t.

It's expensive but I think the colours will really compliment the style of shooting you have.

I wouldn't worry about it. The motion and lens blurring helps to add to the real life dizziness of Hong Kong. They make me feel alienated.

These photos particularly feel quite intimate but at the same time really disconnected. This feeling probably plays into the idea of how tight living is in Hong Kong. You get glimpses right into people's personal life, but at the same time you realise you don't know these people at all.

but these honestly have got to be the nicest pictures i've seen in this place for a long time

These are pretty cool. The narrow field of vision and slight blur makes it feel like walking through HK drunk. Disassociated and unconnected from everything that's happening around you.

It's a cool perspective. I think if you 'knew what you were doing' (that is, had a technical knowledge of composition and exposure etc) these would be worse. You've got a natural eye for scenes that isn't hindered by the rules of photography, which is rad.

How'd you achieve the softness and flaring?
