Once they develop a defect, which is incredibly likely, their actual value is very close to zero; nobody is repairing a 5 year old digital camera unless it's a hasselblad or 1DX et al.

The A7 is a camera that Sony was stupid enough to release as an obsolete model, which means that its original purchaser copped a $700 or so depreciation hit when they sold it to me. Sucks to be them, I guess.
Unless 35mm film production stops entirely, or Nikon releases an FM4, in 5 years time my $500 black FM3A might be worth $1000, with the likelihood of it developing a defect through normal use being very low, and with repair remaining economically feasible.
