The first photo quoted does nothing to give you an idea of what this gathering was about. This photo could have been taken at any time during the last year and it would be the same. It's a failure because it fails to capture any of the spirit of the protest.
The second photo works only because there's a clearly defined subject, but fails because it's out of focus and has motion blur.
Every other shot kinda fails because it completely fails to capture the spirit of the event and is just a picture of some signs or hands. There's no particular focus on anything at all. Take your time, compose your shots and find a subject. Second to that, take more shots of people and don't be scared. You're supposed to be there to document the event, so do so.
I understand that the left are known for being violent when protesting or taking it out on the photographer but it's your job to overcome that. Otherwise you're just at a rally or protest for now reason.
