Let's talk about /p/ Notebooks

Want buy a Notebook for following reasons

main ones battery is dead so i can't use it whenever i want to outside..

Hundreds of RAW or TIFF scanns & Files in LR or ARC

playing small Games sometimes, let's say LoL only...

and dl movies ofc...the usual stuff

found a 2nd Hand Lenovo Thinkpad t530, the specs :

>i5-3210M (2.50 GHz, 3
>300gb HDD
>4gb DDR3
>Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 NVidea NVS 5400M ( probably 1gb idk)
Price 200€

I recommend spending the extra $100 on another 4 gigs of ram and either a tb hard drive or the same amount of space in ssd form.

i will take the 2x4gb rams off my other notebook with the broken battery...put it in the t530
also i got a fast PC at home so i need the notebook for quick work before i store them into my PCs hd, 300gigs should be fine...

is it just me or are there actually photographers who use thinkpads for their work ?

Most older Thinkpads have awful screens with terrible color accuracy and bad coverage (like 50-60% of SRGB) theyre in no way useful for photo editing.

This is true.

And note that most models have a choice in screens, picking the best screen can make a huge difference.

Big problem with Macbooks is they have glossy screens.
They also tend to overheat during long CPU intensive tasks like importing into Lightroom.

Yeah, it's what most photographers use now, but there are much better options for photographers who know what to look for.

Well that explains a few things.

The Thinkpad is the brick shithouse of laptops. My T60p survived a 4 foot drop onto concrete with barely a scratch. My E545 didn't fare so well but it still works.

They have upgraded screens for them but the factory screens are abysmal for photo editing. Those specs should be more than enough horsepower for what you're doing.

Unsure about the upgraded LCDs but for lower cost business grade with generally (always Google) look at Dell's Latitude lines.

You can get some recent models with 95-100+ of sRGB for like $300-$400.

Can also vouch for the Latitude.

I prefer the Thinkpad, when I was in laptop repair we almost never saw them come across my bench for repair and we had corporate accounts with thousands of them on payroll. I did one motherboard replacement the whole time I was there for 3 years.

They make IPS screens for the Thinkpad, Lenovo/IBM calls them Flexview, I'm ordering one for my T60.

The two big things you will want are a good screen and tons of memory. Lightroom and Photoshop is a memory hog and any modern browser by itself will take up half of a GB of memory just running in the background. 16gb kits are cheap.

A good computer's a good computer. There's nothing specific this goyim needs to process photos, hell the thread started off just telling us about a laptop they found and the price of it.
What are you going to add in a conversation about /p/ specific notebooks?
Does it have a USB port? Does it have VGA out? Does it have enough processing power to handle your adjustments? Of course it does. It's good.

This is a /g/ thread pure and simple, there's nothing a photography board can offer this goyim about laptops, apart from maybe some advice about how to stream his tranny hooker pickups from his trucker cab.
