Extreme beginner looking for advice. This was taken on my HTC One m8 phone as that's (very sadly) the best camera I currently have access to. I know, the quality sucks, but I'm trying to do my best with what I've got.

This is the original photo straight off the phone. What could I do better in terms of framing/angle/exposure, etc.?

Don't park your bike so close to your background. When you're using a phone camera, you need a shitload of space between the subject and the background to get a decent blur.
Go take your bike up to an elevated place with a view, or to an isolated road. You need a better background.
As far as the actual shot, you've cut off the mirror and it looks kind of awkward. Either get the whole bike in the shot, or move in on a particular section, like the brake discs or the back with something interesting framed by the back fender.

You can take great photos with any camera, but with a shit one you need to be more creative.

Thanks for the advice. I had the idea to move farther away from the background just as I was leaving, but I didn't have time to move and retake photos. Maybe I'll try again.
I totally agree a better background would help. I chose this spot because it was the only place I could find at the time with decent light (night time), and low light does not play too well with phone cameras in my experience. When I get a chance I'll see if I can try again someplace more interesting.
Thanks for the suggestion about the mirror. I did it this way intentionally because if I'm slightly farther away the camera seems to lose a LOT of detail, so I tried to pretty much fill the frame with the bike. In retrospect though, a bit less detail from moving back just enough to get the mirror in would probably be a worthwhile tradeoff.

Try standing back and zooming in, shooting in good light, squatting down to get down on the bike's level, and as the guy above said, using a better background. I sold my '95 ZX-9R a few years ago and here are the photos I used.

Tried to get rid of that weird green colour cast for you.

Biggest tip is shoot in decent light. You can use a close background but you need to be completely square on to avoid perspective distortion (fixable in post - sorry I cbf)

Thanks for the tips and the adjustments! I definitely noticed the odd coloring, but wasn't sure how to get rid of it. Comparing with yours I'm able to get the same result, so that was definitely helpful.

Went back and re-took the photo farther from the background. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get far enough away to get any decent background blur (I'm honestly not sure it's possible with this phone, with this subject distance). This original image is definitely too dark, but I'll post my adjustments next. I think I like it better than my first attempt. It doesn't quite pop out as much as the first photo, but it definitely feels more like what I actually saw there.

Give the bike some more room, step back and take the photo from 5m away or so. The background is arguably not a problem because of its simplicity and symmetry. Try have a light coming from your side of the bike more than from behind so your subject isn't silhouetted.

Sadly I don't think there's much way for me to light it better (in the same area), because the bike leans that way to rest on the kick stand, which casts it into shadow. I don't want to photograph the other side because I've got a couple scratches there. I can try stepping back, but I'm afraid that with this garbage camera I'll lose too much detail to make it worthwhile.
Also, you saying Yamahas are shit or that they're the shit?

Maybe don't take the photo completely side on, if there's an angle that flatters your machine a little more try it from there. Low angles tend to look a bit better for motorcycles.
