PNG is lossless, much more recommended compared to using jpegs for photography.This argument is akin to saying that you shouldn't hang prints in a gallery because the print loses a lot of information vs. the raw, so art galleries should only hang USB drives with copies of the original source files on them.
JPG is absolutely the right choice over PNG for distributing and displaying photographs. If you're going to edit or scale a picture, you shouldn't be using the JPG, but you shouldn't be using a PNG either--you should be using the original RAW or you shouldn't be fuckin' editing it because it's not your fuckin' photo to edit. If you just want to do a quick little edit on something to post on 4chan as a joke, then you really don't need every single ounce of quality that the PNG gives you to do so.
