Sensor fabricators are numbered. There's like 4 Jap ones left (Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Sigma..?)

Probably a few Chinese ones that mainly do cheapo smartphone cams.
I don't know who makes Leica's sensors.
Nikon doesn't have that infrastructure.
More likely they do what Fuji does and they have inhouse R&D on sensor design and they get a hire a third party factory to mass produce them for them (in both cases, Sony's factories).
Since CMOS sensors aren't exactly super varied special snowflakes, probably 90% of whatever Nikon/Fuji want is already taken into account with Sony's stock sensors they sell anyway.
