It's important to have both a soft and hard editing solution, that are then used together.
There are alternatives to lightroom, such as dxo and cap 1, and there are alternatives to photoshop, such as gimp.
But, just go with adobe, unless you use Fuji, in which case your best using fuji's own version of silkypix, it's fucking awful, but no other software supports fuji files fully and you will be left with very soft photos.
