Well for example someone I know got a thing to take event photos for the unique newspaper
He's not in this for the money or w/e but it's good motivation and a nice way to start I think

And it's mainly because he already works at that uni, so I guess that's where the networking bit helps

I mean imagine being in that area and you need people to take pictures; you know this uni in your area has an entire club of people that are into this, so where would you go if you didn't want to spend too much on it?

A lot of this is the science behind photography. Visible light spectrum, hyperfocal distance, stuff like that. Not a ton of practical application. None of this will teach you how to make a baby smile or pose a bride.

It's basically just a certificate that people can put on their wall once they start doing portraits. Otherwise if I had the money I could probably start up my own photo place without any degree at all. Just from personal experience.

I'm half way through Lecture 3 and it's pretty interesting, or at least I like this style of course, where they go through some history, some physics, before getting into the actual core

Most university photography programs are fine art degrees, so you'll be learning a lot more than just what a histogram is.

>be around artists (real and posers)
>learn conceptual and technical techniques
>critiques
>access to pro equipment if your school isn't shite

It's also entirely possible to learn art/photo on your own, but you would need to be a highly disciplined/motivated individual.
