board street-cred is highly valued by a lot of people because they crave the validation, and since this is one of the harsher parts of the interwebs when it comes to critique (of any kind), validation from /p/ anons is quite something
it's mostly approval-seeking, a competition of "taste" (see /mu/), and who takes a bigger shit on the other
the effect is double-edged: on the one hand you avoid people posting literally all the shit they take without a second thought, on the other hand beginners are less likely to get advice for improvement
