>>3022894Lol, no one sincerely recommended an eos m, you've been memed, never the less it will work fine for you to learn on.
Take it off auto, put it in full manual, make sure the viewfinder is set to give exposure preview, and play. Look at a scene, adjust your iso, ss and aperture and look at how the image gets brighter/darker. Learn about stops.
As a couple of pointers, minimum shutter speed should be 1/2*focal length for sharp photos handheld, so with a 30mm you won't want to go slower than 1/60 without support. To remember the aperture stops, it starts at f1.4, then f2, then it doubles both of those alternately (2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16). For super clean images iso 400 is about as high as you can go, for images clean enough for web sizes iso 3200 will be ok at a push.
>>3022925The only real difference between any cameras is whether they are full frame or crop, you want full frame for portraiture, you have a crop camera, the d610 is the most affordable new full frame nikon. You have a LOT of learning to do before you will get ok shots though, the camera is a hobbyist tool, just like a guitar or paintbrush, your first 100 hours are gonna be excruciatingly bad. And cosplay is usually indoors so you NEED a fast lens, the 70-200 2.8, 85mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.4 are a good starting point.
>>3022955You can learn to do this in your bedroom, grab a load of raws, load up some tutorials and we'll see you in a year.
>>3022958Your mates a mug, canon are about 8 years behind in sensor technology, the only thing canon have going for them is customer service and nice colours on sooc jpegs. And they feel like fischer price toys.
>>3023042>iso 400Lollll, looking at my last con at the nec arena, i was at iso 3200, f1.8, 1/60. Without ibis i would have probably gone up another iso stop. This is firmly into junk territory for crop or canon.
