>>3010570Harsh is one thing. Being a pompous tool is completely different.
Lets use an example. Let's say there are two paintings side by side. The left is a well known Rembrandt. The right is a well known Picasso.
None of us are a Rembrandt or a Picasso, but I'll use them for this illustration because they are readily recognizable and their styles are easily distinguishable and radically different.
Someone asks you what you think of the pictures.
Because, for the sake of this argument, the Rembrandt is done in the exact style and taste and technique that you like and emulate, you heap praise on it. Maybe you find one minor nit to pick, but your not a dick about it.
Because the Picasso, in your opinion for the sake of this example, is absolutely not your style or taste and you feel the technique is wrong, you trash it and hurl insults at Picasso and tell him he should sell his brush for a tree branch and go back to watercoloring. You tell him he needs to go to school for years and just put up with you telling him he's a shit artist and that he has not clue how to paint and so on and so on.
Sounds pretty stupid, right? We all know they are both artists. They both are respected as painters and as having unique style and so on. The vast majority of people look at both and say "Those are paintings, done by artists, each with their own merit and visual style."
You look at one and say "That's like me, so it's godlike." You look at the other and say "That isn't how I was taught and how I prefer, so it can't exist in the same universe as me or I will call it shit and be a condescending twat who thinks only he knows art."
Or, you could skip the butthurt and stop looking like a dildo by just saying "Not my taste or style, but I'd suggest this, or have you tried that to see what it looks like?"
Being a decent human being takes minimum effort. Being a dickwart just makes you a dickwart.
