>>3043729"good" has nothing to do with slide film. i see you got memed in the post-processing thread.
slide film is just film that, when developed, results in a positive image (as opposed to a negative). "slide film" is just a nickname for reversal film. it's called "slide film" because the finished diapositives are usually cut and inserted into little plastic frames so that they can be inserted into a projector, which mechanically slides one frame after another. slide film was very popular with tourists and basically became synonymous with vacation photos, since it was very easy to project a tiny little photo into a wall-sized image that you could admire from a couch.
it has less latitude than print film, usually around 5-7 stops, but it has bright colors, more contrast, and sharper grain. it's basically impossible to print straight from the slide anymore because it requires a destructive dye process that is no longer made. that's alright, because it's easy as hell to scan, compared to negative film. it's not better or worse than negative film, just different. the idiot in the other thread was saying that it takes skill to shoot slide film because it has a fixed white balance and limited dynamic range, just like jpeg. i personally think it's easy mode, since they are such purpose-built films that you can pick the look you want by choosing your film.
