camera choice troubles

No.3030354 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'm looking for a photo camera for traveling as my last one got stolen. When I was traveling alone, I really enjoyed taking pictures. It's a nice and time consuming hobby.

I was seriously considering the Sony α6000 with its APS-C sensor, but then found plenty of detailed reviews stating that the kit lens it comes with is supposedly utter garbage, so the alternative would be to just buy the body and add a better lens to it.

I'm looking for a zoomable wide angle lens starting at the equivalent of 24mm, but I have found only one for E mount, the Sony SEL1670Z, and that's a lens for full frame sensors, so there will be cropping which would not make it a wide angle lens anymore.

As the lens is also disproportionally more expensive than the α6000 body, the Sony α7 with a kit lens will be the cheaper deal and features a full frame sensor. But its kit lens starts at 28mm as opposed to 24mm, which for my use is heavily suboptimal. So buy the α7 body and add the better lens to it and I'm at over 1800 $.

Now it's not a compact camera anymore, mostly due to the lens, so I can't take it with me when I go running for example. There's the Sony rx100 mk3 which is really compact, but it only features a tiny 1 inch sensor but comes with a relatively good lens, at least better than the kit lens of the α6000, but it's a compromise at every corner, featuring far less dynamic range than the latter two and one can't attach a polarization filter.

How to resolve this dilemma? Is there an alternative compact camera with good kit lens that I haven't come to know yet?
