I have a Nikon d500 with a 85mm 1.8, 35mm 1.8 and just pulled the trigger on a 17-55mm 2.8 all Nikon will the zoom lens be good enough to where I can leave my primes home for my vacation and just take the zoom? I'm traveling to New Orleans and primarily want to get photos of my wife, daughter and the architecture there as well as the FOOD.

You made a thread about this earlier but I'll bite being a fellow Nikon fag with more or less the same predicament.

The 35 and 85 are already two really good lenses. If you absolutely need a walkaround lens that 17-55 is a solid choice and the D500 can compensate the extra stop and a 1/3 with its stellar ISO capabilities. I use the older 35/2 AF on my D7000 as a walkaround and it's really all you need. A large portion of the photos done in the Sugar thread were done on that lens or the 11-16 2.8 Tokina. Me personally I would stick to the 35 and 85 combo they are my weapons of choice on DX for walking around. I can walk the street on the 35 and shoot across the street on the 85.

I have the worst memory ever. Don't even remember posting about it but I probably already did. Thanks for the feedback. I hope to get the lens in a couple days that way I can play with it and see what would be the better choice. I'll probably end up taking all my lenses but, I didnt want to worry about losing lenses or breaking them or getting jacked.
