It's not a self portrait in any way whatsoever. It doesn't communicate his personality, or even showcase his appearance.
Just because a photo has a person in it, and the person that took the photo is the person in it, doesn't mean it's a self portrait.
Portrait doesn't just mean "picture involving people."
