Film P&S Upgrade

I've been shooting with a 35mm point and shoot for a while, and wanted to upgrade. Is the Yashica Electro 35 worth purchasing? If not, what is a good film rangefinder/SLR to upgrade from an Olympus Trip 35?

Buy a Nikon FE, one or two prime lenses and you're set.

Yep an FE, a 50mm and a 105mm. Ball park price for a good set, $300 (Yes you can find them cheaper if you shop around or get lucky.)

If you want to go cheaper.

Minolta x700, 50mm and 135mm

More like $100

I actually have a couple of those.
It's alright I guess. If you are a right eye dominant shooter and can find/improvise the special battery it takes. Not that hard in North America or Japan. Harder in the rest of the world I've heard. Might want to have a look at Lynx series too. It doesn't need batteries to operate.

YE is a nice camera if you're looking for aperture priority rangefinder and common problems can easily be repaired. Check ebay and classifieds, but have some patience.

Dude, I have the Electro and it's the best camera purchase I've ever made. The Pad of Death is a common problem, but it really isn't an issue if you buy it from a reputable seller. The focusing ring is a little weird because it's located at the back of the lens, but it really isn't a problem once you get used to it.

I love the fact that it's an aperture priority rangefinder with an electronic shutter, plus the lens is pretty good.
