Is there any benefit to off camera flash versus continuous lighting?

The only reason I see to use flash is either on camera direct or for retards doing shooting where they can't plug a lamp in.

Direct lights can get very hot so models and subjects would find it uncomfrotable, and for food it could ruin the look if you were shooting cold things. Also i'm thinkign you can have a more powerful burst of light than with a constant light.

Its cheaper and you can get many times more light from strobes than similarly priced continuous lights. I'd also say you're probably not a retard if you happen to be shooting in a place without a power outlet.

a basic 200WS strobe needs a couple of kilowatts in hotlights or hmis as equivalent, especially if you want to use modifiers
it's absolutely retarded to use continuous light in a studio setting where you could use strobes

Power. Even a low power strobe still puts out a shit ton of light, but only for a short time. If that same amount of light was continuous, your model would be fucking blind. Even your strongest continuous light is not going to come close to your average strobe in terms of power.
