What happened back then is that this financial services company called UBS bought up Hasselblad to make a quick buck over a few years. Hasselblad was at the forefront of the digital revolution in developing new tech; this was all canned by UBS who only wanted the company to keep selling their well-known analog cameras until it became unviable, sacking all the staff that was attached to the digital project.
I was at their current offices the other day to hand in a camera for service (mirror's stuck). It's not a bad location at all, it's just considerably smaller. It would be fantastic to see them push for more "affordable" cameras again, it's a name that means a lot to a lot of people. Their stuff was never cheap, but atleast it was attainable by enthusiasts rather than reserved for professionals and rich hobbyists.
