But the real question is, do you really need the audio input? There are plenty of little devices you can buy that'll record audio for you.
It really depends on what you want to record. If you want to go out and about shooting documentaries, then yes. If you want to shoot narrative stuff, stuff where you'll get a chance to set up and plan what you're shooting in a controlled environment, then no. You should put your recording device somewhere where it will record audio better, which won't always be on top of the camera.
In the end, unless you know exactly what you want to do with it, it's better to go with the most flexible option. Get the 3400 since it comes with two lenses.
