Some sort of FF + walkaround or APS-C equivalent
My go-to carry piece is a Nikon 24-120 f3.5-5.6 Streetsweeper. They were used primarily by journalists back in the print film days and you can get them mega-cheap and past f/8 they perform well. They are built like a brick shithouse too.

At f/16 it really shines but as with most walkarounds it's loaded with distortion so don't shoot any straight lines with it. Most walkarounds will perform like this and almost every camera manufacturer has one, Canon has a 28-135, or 24-105L if you have deep pockets, I loved mine, Nikon has an updated 24-120 f4 VR that performs much better, I think even Pentax and Sony have one, and if Sony doesn't Minolta had a 28-135 AF back in the film days that will work.
You're capturing action, completely subject-based material; distortion, color fringing and corner sharpness take a back seat to whats going on in the image.
