recently went to an exhibition of roger ballen. it had a bunch of his square photos, they must have been about 90x90cm. also had a whole room playing i fink u freeki (?) video in a loop. also had some videos in the main room, from a documentary of his shit, playing in a loop too.
got dissapointed. up in big scale the photos reveal themselves as some phony construction with zero depth, which doesnt happen if you just glance at them in your pc screen, where they at least look interesting and well crafted. his docu looked insincere and too commercially edgy. could have went to his workshop too, but didnt want to; his whole schtick was once marginally appealing to me, but not anymore.
