If I were to buy a Canon 5D Mk 1 and fit my wonderful 50mm FD lens, how is the autofocus? Obviously I won't have the aids like in my AE-1 but would I have any electronic aids at all?

I want to get a 300w/s monolight as my key and a 120w/s light as my fill.
I already have radio triggers that I have been using forever with offbrand speedlights that do not transmit ttl data.
My question is, what can I do to get HSS to work in this configuration?
Will it work out of the box with any trigger and sync cable?

I am not sure as I have only used speedlights without sync cords before.

Depending on the lens adapter you get, you MIGHT get focus confirmation. I.e., when the lens is in focus over a given focus point, that point will light up. You need to search for this specifically, though, since it's not the default--the adapter needs to have a chip on it to provide enough of a brain for the camera to know it's got a lens on it.

i have a minolta x700 which i'm enjoying a lot
i feel like i could use a second body though, have diffirent speed films in them, or color in one bw in another, or just more expensive in one cheaper in another

i could always buy another x700 but but i think i'd rather get something more mechanical
what are decent bodies i should consider if i want something that will shoot w/o batteries? i don't need lightmeter or a/p modes, hell i could go by without hotshow too just shutter release and shutter speed dial, with as good (big, bright) viewfinder as possible and quality build.

Minolta SRT. Mechanical with uncoupled meter, same lens mount as the X-700 so you don't have to buy another set of lenses. Mechanical SLRs where you have to manually set the exposure settings are great for memorizing exposures for different lighting situations. The SRT requires obsolete mercury batteries for the light meter though, keep that in mind. Zinc-air cells can be used but they expire on their own in a few months.

Minolta XD-7

Feature rich modek that requires batteries, but can function in a basic way without them.

Was actually considered the Pro model and was a step above the X-700. Lacks the P mode, but has everything else along with a full metal construction.

That or you could get a Leica CL:

Adapters exist for these. You pop in an lr-44 and it changes the voltage and makes it fit into the larger mercury battery compartment.

I want to spend around 700-900 € for a Camera body, my best bet would be Nikon for the time being. Pretty much because i have 2 lenses with a Nikon mount.

My shortlisted Cameras are:
-Nikon D7200
-Nikon D800 / 810

What would be a better decision? The lenses i own are both not FX lenses tho.
are there any other manufacturers that have better cameras than the two listed, which are in the same price range?

Save your money, bro. You don't know what you want or why you want it, which means you don't need it. There's nothing new gear would accomplish that your current gear couldn't. Spend your money on lenses AFTER you have figured out what you NEED.

If you're dead set on buying a new body, D7200 could be a good choice. You can't get a good copy of a D8x0 series camera for that little money. Or, you can but it's not likely... unless it's stolen. There's also no point using dx lenses on fx body.

Also i heard that you can use an old 35mm 1.4 prime (110€) on a fx body and it would still give you a good shot.

Git the Wetzlar made lenses, Summicron-C and Elmar-C. Also some early Rokkor branded ones were made in Germany. Jap made ones suffer from separation and aren't as good anyway.

Only the 28mm suffers from seperation, and it isn't too hard to find a version without it.

Otherwise, the Japan produced ones are sharper and have better coatings.

PRetty isane to think the sensor on the right is 4 times the area of on the left without a huge difference in size. I suppose M Mount lenses don't have to include autofocus motors, etc.
I'm not dissing M43 either. That is a great combination of cameras to have: quick and easy, and deliberate and composed.

If you're taking scenic shots (which I interpret to mean landscapes and such), having a flash (even a powerful external flash) isn't going to help you much. A flash isn't powerful enough to light up more than a small area.

There are creative things you could theoretically do with off-camera flash in a landscape photo, but if you're asking the question here, you're probably not at that level yet. Save your money for the trip.

It depends on both lens and body. Primes tend ti be faster.

Plus lighting conditions when you are using it can change the speed drasticly.

Almost every DSLR and most mirrorless are fast enough for 95% of average shooting situations though.
