I'm not the op, but I'm terrified of the idea that I might not be able to afford my subscription one month and I'll lose access to ten years of photo edits.

I decided to buy Lr and Ps package for $118 for the next year. I keep all my raw files one external drives and after making edits I export them all to jpeg on my computer. So far the adobe software is much more pleasing to use than the other programs I had been using. I wouldent pay the $150 for Lr and have the program for life cause it will just end up being obsolete. I say you either buy the CC subscription if you can afford it or just pirate it. As long as you export to jpg losing your edits on your raw files isnt the worst thing ever.

Oh, I guess you're right. I'll just go through the 635,614 photos in my Lighroom catalog, pick out the 83,581 that I'd previously edited, and recreate all of the edits I made to them. That doesn't sound like that much of a hassle.

It won't be a problem in the next few years.
But in 20 or 30 years time who knows what will happen?
Adobe might go bankrupt or simply decide to no longer support Lightroom.

Also maybe you want to switch to a different platform in 10 years time and then what?
Pay two subscriptions so you can keep your old edits?

I mean at this point LR6 is 3.5 years old and they've basically only added dehaze for actual photography tools, the rest of the "features" are mostly mobile app shit and synching? Unless
you use that shit don't bother.

The other thing is if you fall for the meme and get LRCC as far as I can tell there's no easy way to go back to Lightroom 6 and keep your edits, etc so you're kinda stuck.

As for Lr6 in a way I'm less worried about new features, but camera/format support going forward. Suppose Lr7 comes out this year, will they backport camera profiles and shit to Lr6? In case they didn't, I'd rather get Lr7 just for those couple extra years of camera support. I'm due for a new main body next year too and planning to retire my current main to backup status.
