Daily reminder that if you shoot with a lens with more than 4 elements, youve been propagandized and as a result youll get overcorrected shit photos with no character.

On that note, how into lubricating an Industar? What do I need besides isopropyl inna spray can, a set of micro screwdriver heads, some q-tips, blu-tack, and a brightly-coloured tray?

Spray can anything on lenses is wrong.

Use silicone grease as lubricant, preferable with PTFE.
Do not use shit like wd40 because it evaporates, gums up the treads, dries at low temp, and the residue ends up on the glass.

I'm not about to spray anything onto anything that's not a q-tip or other piece of cleaning equipment. This is fine mechanical stuff we're talking about. What about lithium grease? PTFE I've heard about & will look up. I'm expecting a m39 lens' helicoid to be easily accessible without disassembling the whole lens.

This guy https://markorussa.wordpress.com/2015/08/31/general-instructions-for-lens-clean-lubricate-adjust-cla/ has some instructions on CLA'ing lenses; is he in the right ballpark?

I don't use any lenses at all.
You cannot capture the true light of the composition if you hide the sensor behind any amount of glass.

Sonnar is the correct answer.
Planar literally gives the least aesthetic image quality possible from a lens. Objectively the worst lens design by far that just sells to plebs that can only read an F number.

You're not lubing a rotary pump.
I use White lithium grease for most of my mechanical applications, but silicone is better for things that you're going to have prolonged contact with.

Lithium grease. At least with Jupiter-8 you can remove the entire focusing helicoid assembly from the optical elements easily and dump it in a can of gasoline which will dissolve any remains of the old lubricant. If you can't do that then use a rag and a solvent of your choice. Then apply a thin layer of lithium grease available at any hardware store or gas station, and you're done.

I should've mentioned that I'm trying to lube an Industar-22 (50mm f/3.5, collapsible, singly coated, very cool), with a protruding helicoid. (not a capsulated one like 26m and 61l/z.) Am I going to be having issues with lubricant dribbling into the camera, or somehow messing with the rangefinder cam, if I go with one of the lubricants suggested so far?

To be fair, that bork is just about on par with a jupiter-8 in its bulk, but the transition isn't as nice. (though I guess her hip and shoulder yield a dramatic silhouette around that depth). Some will like this, no doubt, so $950 for a specialty manual focus non-ASPH lens seems just about in the right ballpark.
