>be me
>go /out/ pretty often, enjoy hiking and finding scenic spots
>usually take a few snapshits with my cellphone camera, few minor in-app edits
>people say my pictures look really pretty
>(probably because I go out of my way to find good spots)
>decide to buy DSLR to take even better pictures, and gives me an excuse to go /out/ more often
>end up spend more time /in/ doing post-processing than going /out/
>can't even enjoy /out/ now because I spend 1 hour in the same spot trying to get "muh composition" instead of just 5 minutes on snapshits and hiking to even better spots

how do i get off this ride

What the fuck kind of post processing are you doing? What the fuck are you doing in the same spot for an hour? How many photos do you get out of one trip? I get the feeling you're trying to squeeze out 50+ photos on a trip that should only get you around 10-15. Quality is always better than quantity. Instead of trying to edit 100 snapshits, cull that shit and only work on around 10 of your best shots, trash the rest.

I can kinda feel OP, even though I only squeeze 5-10 photos per trip.

Weeding the junk takes time, and I just don't enjoy the PP work on any level. I do enjoy the end result, and I like that digi allows me to take some images film doesn't, but otherwise I'm far happier with the "Point and click" -style photography, even if that click sometimes is setting up a 4x5 loaded with slide film.

how many shots do you take of one subject?
I find myself trying different angles, exposures, etc. to try to get at least one good picture, then spend the time back home weeding out the bad ones

The only problem is this can take forever and suck a lot of the fun out of it

Spend less time on composition and just take pictures you fucking sperg. My dslr is part of my /out/ edc, I spend next to no extra time snapping pics partly because I keep my camera mounted on my shoulder strap on one of these:

I'll usually just take one photo if it's a quick snapshit. Three or four at most if it's something I really like just to make sure at least one is framed well. For me culling duplicate photos of the same subject isn't that big of a deal because I'm autistic as fuck and I'll know right away which photos bother me and which ones I want to work on. And yes, I do end up screwing up a shot and not having backup shots to choose from. But it's just something I learned to deal with.

My advice is to try to find your balance. Don't take 20 shots of the same thing if you don't want to sit at home staring at 20 shots trying to find the best one. Trust your gut instincts when taking a photo. Or if you want a safety net of having multiple photos try this, spend some time trying to make your first shot the absolute best shot, then try different angles etc. afterwards. When you go back to edit, you should have a stronger bias towards your first shot to save you some time on selecting the best photo, but you'll still have a few backups in case the first photo didn't come out that good.

Create presets in editing software to speed things up.

One reason that I shoot film is I like the look of images without any post. Everything looks generally pleasing just from the scans. Sometimes I'll do some slight adjustments, but that takes less than 2 minutes. I find with my digital shots I have to edit more.

On a recent weekend away I took nothing but a Bronica S2, I shot 4 rolls total, ended up publishing about half of them, even after finding out that the focusing screen was misaligned.
