When looking at then Leica M3 and asking for something similar in todays world, keep in mind that a Leica M6 with a Summilux 1.4 was 2409 USD. Adjusted for inflation that would be 5318 USD.
I would go with M10 + Summilux 50mm
https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/image-comparison/fullscreenLook at the comparisons, the color rendition especially on the skincolors is amazing.
It is very expensive, that could would run you around 9000usd. But you would see only little depreciation.
Look on ebay for M9 bodies they are still going for 1500-2000 USD.
The lenses lose only 20-30% after a decade.
If you can find the money get the M10 + Summi 50.
If you are on a budget get the M9 with a Summicron rigid 50mm (from the 60s)
This will cost you around 2000$ but you will love shooting again. The lens will have no depreciation at all and the body only a little.
Camparing it to s Sony or Fuji that will be wortless after 5years.
I just recently got the M10 with the Summi 50.
What I love most about it that this combo has a signature look, the way the lens renders on the M10 Sensor is amazing and not possible to replicate on post. Skin has a slight glow. I love it and in todays inflationary photography world, its a nice way to distinguish yourself from the mass.
