This would maaaaybe be a defensible position if you'd only said Canon, but given that Sony makes the sensors in both Sony cameras and Nikon cameras, you're 100% full of shit.

A plastic EOS body with a kit zoom on it is an excellent choice, usually won't run you more than $20 if you look around.

I think there's more to it than that, the sensors get tuned to treat shadows and highlights in a particular way, choice of cfa has a huge impact, whatever they do to process the signal, and they both do weird shit to the raw files.
Not saying you weren't right to call him out.

Sony a6000
An evf will help you learn much faster as it gives a wysiwyg preview of the shot you're taking, which automatically changes as you adjust iso, shutter speed and aperture. Whereas a dslr just has a window.

A6000 is also a lot smaller than any dslr so you will be less likely to leave it at home and it looks 5 times less autistic.

It also has the best image quality of any low budget body, has an insane range of accessories, can adapt any old lens onto it with a cheap adapter and has much better video performance than the canikon equivalents.

Disadvantages?
Might only get 600 shots per battery charge.
You have to endure all the anti sony fags that have some carry over effects from their xbox vs playstation days.

Sony evfs are utter shit, especially for A5000 to A6500 and the RX100 ones. The A7II evf still isn't great. Yet I have to try the A7R2 and A9.

Some Fuji and Oly evfs, also the Canon M5 evfs are impressive

Well, I'm sort of trying to say they have currently the EVF leadership, and you are basing most of your opinions on their older models.

The A9 is the one with a nice large EVF, and free from blackout, and high refresh rate.
