This actually happened to me. I went hiking with a friend who had his DSLR with a standard 24-70 zoom. I had my Q with the tele zoom in my bag. We saw a hawk perched on a nearby tree and I quickly and painlessly switched to my little telephoto zoom, whereas my nerd ass friend didn't bring any other lenses because too heavy and too much shit to carry around. I got a nice close up image of the hawk, whereas my friend got a nice close up of the tree. (you should really use a slow superzoom lens if you're gonna bring a DSLR to a daytime hike)
>>3166479There is no real, super practical point to the Q. A superzoom bridge camera is a better travel/hiking camera than any of the cameras mentioned thus far. It's still a good camera for those purposes, just not objectively the best. To that end, the system has excellent wide zoom, telephoto zoom, and standard prime lenses. It also has some toy lenses that are okay to mess around with, but really the 3 aforementioned lenses are all you really want to use on the Q if ``travel'' is your objective.
>>3166488To be fair, I do carry a small bag for my Q, extra lens, and off-camera flash while on a hike or vacation. It's a good compromise for me, the bag with everything in it is still light and small. And I still have the option to just go out with my camera+prime lens over my shoulder, no bag, if I feel like it.
Pic related is the flash I carry in my bag. it pairs up nicely with the Q for travel off-camera flash. One time I met a girl while I was out shooting at night, and it somehow turned into an impromptu portrait shoot. I didn't have any off-camera flash on me so I had to use the light from a phone. Ever since, I always carry off-camera flash in my small travel bag. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
