Hey guise. I'm new to photography. I just dropped $1,050.00 on a Hasselblad 500 C/M with an 80mm lens on eBay. I've done a little research before I bought, and I wanted to get something good. Did I do gud? Any advice on how to start out?

Normally dropping a grand on your first camera is... strange but nonetheless it is a stellar camera as long as you don't need to get it repaired at some point down the line.

My advice would be:
>Study your camera manual, learn its ins and outs
>Understand the triangle of exposure, namely the ISO/shutter speed/aperture size triangle. It is the tool you will be using mentally all the time to expose your shots as you wish
>Starting out without a lightmeter can be very hard. I suggest you get the free Lightmeter app on your phone after reading around a bit to understand how a lightmeter works
>Buy tons of film, shoot tons of photos. Seriously. When getting started shoot as much as you can (with a clear goal in mind, in order to learn). Be prepared for the costs of developing/scanning if you do that though.

it's a great camera, just not a starter's camera
habelblab has lots of quirks that can sometimes be fixed by you and other times require expensive servicing that may mean it's cheaper to just pick up another body / lens / back ect.

just remember that if you try to do something and it doesn't operate silky smooth stop. stop because if you don't know how to fix it then and there, your next step is going to cost you a lot of money

Well you over paid by a shit ton, a basic 500, 80, single back and wlf shouldn't have been more than $600ish.

And you chose a shit product to learn on, every frame will cost $1+, up to 3 or 4 if you use slide film or bw film and don't have a darkroom.

it goes triple for blad and then even more so as they age.
i mean if you try to put a lens on a body and the shutter isn't cocked you will break it, of you try to put the lens on a body and the body is not advanced, you will break it. then the film backs are similar.

That's the biggest thing I hate about MF cameras. It's like a 14-point checklist just to do simple shit that you don't have to think about with DSLRs. I've got a couple of different brands of MF, and if I haven't been shooting it recently I have to go through and memorize a damn checklist for that particular camera before I go shooting.

No, it's really just hasselblads that ive heard of all these potential jam-inducing situations. Have owned 6 mf cameras (slr and rf) and none of them are as finnicky as a 'blad. There's a reason I've never owned one... sounds like a high maintenance girlfriend in camera-form.

Is there something in Hasselblad that requires that order? With my RZ67 I've always taken out the slide as the last step before releasing the shutter. Then, I immediately put it back in and advance the film.

I shot with an RB for years, never saw any reason to reinsert the dark slide until I had finished a roll and wanted to remove the back. But as for your question, you can advance the film with or without the dark slide, makes no difference.

I insert the dark slide simply so I don't forget it. But, to be fair, I only ever use the camera for long, slow, methodical landscape stuff, so after a single shot I would likely not be shooting again for a long time.

$200 #12 Magazine. So its slightly harder to load. Big deal.

$325 for a 80mm "C" T* in chrome finish

Great camera, just be careful with the dark slide as you can give the magazine light leaks
