So I'm going to Japan soon and grabbing an a6000 to immortalize the trip

I'll be grabbing the stock lens but wanted recommendations on a second lens for night time photography (unless stock is already good for that) & also landscape photography if possible bois

Look at the two Sigma e-mount primes (30mm and 60mm I think).

Both sharp as a hell. The 30 is a good all around lens, and the 60 is great for portraits.

Or if you wanna go with one lens get the 18-105 f/4. It is an awesome travel lens.

What's your budget?

24mm f1.8 zeiss is incredible. I got one used for $450.

Sadly not that much, already spending quite a bit with the hotels (going there for a whole month)
I'd say maybe 700$ total including the camera itself, but I might put in extra since I'd probably want to do a lot of night-time shooting.

Then again I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to this so I'm wondering if maybe basing your settings around night-time shooting already does wonders ?

Kit lens is gonna be shit for low light due to the tight aperture, the body and the sigma 17-50 2.8 would be much better in low light and generally much better than the kit lens in every regard. 2nd hand they are barely more expensive than the kit lens.

Don't forget a mini tripod like Gorillapod. Voting for Sigma 30 f1.4 or a used Zeiss >>3167715. If you get the Zeiss you won't want to take it off, so might as well skip the kit lens and get the 2 really cheap Sigmas (19 f2.8 and 60 f2.8), though I'm guessing your budget won't stretch that far. Have fun.

Buy a m42 mount Pentax 50mm 1.4, the one with the radioactive yellow coating. Takes the best toned pictures I've ever seen in my entire life, and is my go to street/nature lens.

It's not terrible but it's not great. It's a cheaper one size fits all lens. Why anyone would expect it to be really good is beyond me.

Because it's £100 more than the Sigma 30mm, has OSS, has better AF, is half the size and weight, and it's only very slightly less sharp depending on aperture as long as you're a pixel peeper. Why wouldn't they expect it to be good?

In what way is it not great?

Buy your camera in America where it is cheaper, then go buy some used vintage glass or something in Japan while you are there. I don't even know if they sell foreigner versions of the a6000 there.

Actually already had settled for that ! Got the base + Sigma 30 f1.4, it seemed to fit what I was looking for the most. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't giddy as fuck to get them both and try them ASAP
