When you're creating wall-size family portraits, often with 10 to 15 people or more, even at an enlargment of 30x40, the face sizes are about the size of a quarter, and it's critical to squeeze every possible amount of fine detail out of your image. Granted, such portraits are often viewed from across a room, but just as often, someone will want to walk up and study it. Not trying to argue with anyone here, but I've been down the whole road of testing the results of a high-end DSLR against my Hasselblad, same family group, same lighting, same everything, and the medium format sensor delivered significantly superior results.
