Need suggestions for a good camera for videography and some light vlogging. I've been considering the Panasonic G85, Canon 80d, and Sony A6300/6500. What do you guys recommend?

Im torn between g85 and gh5. Is picture quality going to be very different assuming youre walking around the city with identical lenses?

What is peoples obsession with Vlogging? Hardly anyones live is THAT interesting.

I'd say go with the a6500. The ibis and 4k make it amazing for video. I have the a6300 and really wish I had the 6500. My friend has the 6500 and the stabilization looks amazing.

Both are great cameras. I would still get hung up on the m4/3 sensor. Not to mention, although sony doesn't have a massive lens lineup, the emount is vary versitile in allowing a huge range of lens conversion.

If op wants to vlog I'd say the Sony is a no go because the screen doesn't really allow you to frame yourself while filming. That and it dims to the point of unusability when shooting 4k

GH5 is on another level from the G85, performance wise and price wise. What kind of videography do you do? If you're just doing it casually it's probably not worth blowing a couple of grand on a body but if you're trying to go pro then anything less than the GH5 won't really cut it.

Except they do? I can't find sources right now but some footage of Planet Earth 2 were filmed with helmet mounted GH4 and some night time footage were filmed with Sony A7s II.

If he could get a GH4 on there he could get an A7 on there. Especially seeing as DJI make A7 gimbals. He wanted the best and to him that meant the GH4 over the A7. What's so hard to understand? You are legit braindead. Don't fight my words, fight the filmmaker's. A full FF system + lens is far heavier on a drone. That's why DJI has a drone with a M43 sensor and not FF one. M43 cams are basically crash cams in the professional world.

Probably just gonna go with the a6500 and build from there. The flip screen of the g85 is nice, but I'm sure framing isn't too hard in the event that I do vlog. Battery life is gonna suck though.

For strictly video, I think the g85 is a lot more convenient and easier to use, it will have less rolling shutter issues as well. Also Panasonic dual is really good too, which would be pretty relevant with vlogging. The Sony has better image quality but it also costs a lot more.

This video is old too. They could have definitely chose a higher quality camera. The fact that they didn't is a testament to the quality of the decent lightweight, 4k capable bodies these days.

Pretty sure the rolling shutter on the a6500 is exactly the same as the a6300. I own an a6300, and the rolling shutter is fucking horrible. BUT if you have any stabilization, like a stabilized lens or the ibis of the a6500, it's not noticable. So you'll be fine in terms of that.

80D has good autofocus and a flip screen which is great, but one thing I dislike about it is that it doesn't have a LOG mode. You can install cinestyle or a version of C LOG, but both aren't very great.
If you have a bit extra money go with the A6500.

A5100 is a nice alternative though, saves a few hundred bucks and gives you everything but a slight loss in quality
