Okay my dudes. I have just recently gotten my first dslr (Rebel T6). I have extra batteries, the standard lens and a 75-300 mm lens, and a bag just big enough to hold all of it. What equpment should I invest in? I plan on taing portraits, skateboarding action shots, and nature pics.

24mm pancake for the skate action. get close and try not to be kill be the boarder

50mm 1.8 for portraits, and try to not be kill by your model

use the same 24 for the nature, and try to not be kill by the hornets

As for specific skateboarding material I'm in the skate club at my uni and so I take still shots mid trick and also a little video. And i make no promises to stay alive.

it depends on your budget obviously. I would say get the 50 1.8 for portraits, it's not the best portrait lens in the world, but it will be nice. Then maybe check out the rokinon 14mm 2.8 for the skate photos. It's a cool lens, for relatively cheap

Ya fucked up getting the T6. 3FPS burst is way too slow for skateboarding or any sort of fast action. Shoulda gone for the T6i/T5i [5fps] or a Nikon D3400 [5fps].

Another vote for the 50/1.8 as a good, cheap portrait lens for that camera.

Skateboard shots are traditionally done up close with a wide, so the 14mm mentioned should work.

3fps isn’t ideal, as >>3180334 said, but I’d disagree that it’s a dealbreaker. Just means you have to work on timing and anticipating your shot rather than just spray-and-pray burst mode.

Oh, forgot to say: your kit 18-55 zoom should be fine for the skateboard shots, so mainly get the 50 and follow >>3180342’s advice.

Before you get anymore lenses it's essential that you get a solid tripod. Getting a decent tripod probably had the biggest effect on improving my photography overall

start with extension tubes with electrical contacts.
no need to buy a special lens until you know you'll need it
