Depends on what and where you like to shoot. Primes have their uses but I would never cart a sackful of the fuckers around with me. Three good zooms (f2.8 is plenty fast enough for my needs) and a cheap macro is all I have in my cupboard. But I don't do formal portraits, fashion or glamour shit. Your milage may vary

Think about your shooting style and bare in mind that primes are also a meme encouraged by blogs and shills in order to sell more bits of gear to abject faggots than perhaps they really need.

At the end of the day only you can decide

Prime. 28, 50 and 135mm all day every day. Leave one of the three at home and shoot. Better image quality, sharpness, borkeh, control of your DoF, you know how to frame before using the viewfinder at the end of the day. Since you don't zoom in videography, the same rules apply.

if I'm traveling - zoom

I don't do video so I guess I'll only argue for photography, but locally I usually have an idea of what I'm going to shoot and plan accordingly to that one lens. When traveling, I prefer zoom to carry less shit around and because I may not know what I'll be seeing so having the option of zooming in and out is very convenient.

If your zoom is good enough then that's all you'll need for most projects. Primes can be rented/borrowed on a required basis unless there's a set you particularly like working with.

This is so underrated desu. When I walk the city with my 100D+40mm I always know exactly where to position myself to frame the shot like i want it, without looking down the viewfinder.
Makes it a lot easier to take quick shots like for street photography, but also just makes you not have to look like a retard walking 10 metres backwards because you misjudged the framing.

this is the biggest pro of using a prime. Pre visualization of your framing is amazing.

If you ever find yourself doing event photography(yes that includes weddings) it is extremely helpful to being able to capture the "moments".

That's a dumb idea, I use a lot of different focal lengths. But even if I didn't being able to get from 24 to 70, with 28, 35 and 50 in between in the space of a second, as a scene evolves is more important to me than poncing around pretending to be superior with a couple of poxy primes
