So a friend of mine passed on recently. His mom gave me this saying it was his father's. Could anyone tell me where to look for info to find out how to use it?

Check the name and model number then google it like,

Meade # manual filetype:pdf

Just replace "#" with what ever the model number it. That should give you only pdf results for the manual.

Well for starters I don't see the Hand controller in the picture so good luck using it if you don't have the hand controller.
Looks like a reflector telescope chances are the mirrors need to be collimated. Personally I'm not a fan of meade telescopes a lot of the guys like them the name just doesn't sell the product to me.

A Newtonian reflector produces upside down image. Does not matter with stars but may be a problem w naked ladies.

Collimation can drive you insane if you're a perfectionist.
The mirrors are misaligned, the focuser is misaligned, even the tools you use to check for misalignment are misaligned so on and so on....

So, while you're all here, I want to re-activate my old Telescope for photography. it's an old, non-electronic mirror-telescope where the viewing lens is to the side of the main tube, in a 90° angle, I guess you'd call it a catadioptric.
What kind of adapter do I have to buy for my mount for that?

Almost certainly a newtonian telescope. Assuming it has a standard 1.25" or 2.0"focuser any t-ring adapter should be sufficient. Depending on the model achieving focus with the slr might be problematic.

I'm not sure of the focal length you're working with but without an equatorial mount you're not doing any kind of long exposure with that thing.
