but I have a shit chink phone. need a camera by the end of the year. I was gonna get film but i would have to drive about 40 miles just to get one roll developed for $15, its not worth it.

Bought my black Canon 350D for 168 and sold it for 150. Only 8 megapickles but I could edit RAW and the dynamic range and depth of field with the kit lens far surpassed anything you would have taken with a cellphone at the time. It had bits that rattled when you shook it, the paint was peeling, and it only took CF cards but I'll be damned if it didn't teach me every basic principle of photography. The Nikon D70 is also recommended.

OP, I bought a 5D Classic and two L lenses in my first year of college by not being an idiot with finances and learning how to save money.

That being said, I have seen D40s and 400d, 350d and similar entry-level DSLRs for under 100 dollars on Craigslist. They aren't bad cameras and you'll learn the basics on them. My 400d taught me the basics and I'll be damned if I ever get rid of it.
