Well /p/ the time has come. After of having the rod rebel T6 for a year I think it's time for an upgrade soon.
I originally started in 2015 with a canonsx530 point and shoot. But now I've gotten tired of my Rebel t6 and am looking for something new. Is the switch to mirrorless cameras (Sony) worth it?
I'm currently shooting with 4 lenses.
18-55mm f3.5, 50mm f1.8, 40mm f2.8, 55-250 f5.6
Should upgrade to another canon dslr? And if yes which one? Fall image for attention.

I was in the exact same boat as you. I had the t3i for a long time and outgrew it. I was wanting to stay with canon, but at the time, their top camera (besides their 1d series) was the 5dmk3. Which wasn't really a huge step up from the t3i to be honest. At least when taking into account that I'd have to drop like 3 grand to get 3 more megapixels and full frame, it seemed absurd. I ended up going with sony. I bought the a7r1, which was fairly new at the time, and I still have it to this day. I still use all of my canon glass with a metabones4 adapter. The AF sucks, but I don't use af for the kinds of images I shoot, so I really don't care about that.

If you want to stay with canon, I'd say buy the original 6D. I think that's probably the best bang for the buck camera that canon has right now. But with that being said, keep in mind, that I'm assuming some of your lenses are crop lenses, so if you end up buying a full frame camera, the only lens you'll be able to use is probably that 50mm.

----- what Sony cameras are good for autofocus? And with an adapter would I be able to use my canonlenses on the Sony A7 for example?

I still don't think that those lenses will mount. Check them and see if they have the little white square near the mount or if its the red circle. If it's a white square, it will not mount onto a full frame canon. Pic related

If you use sony lenses they're great. But I just don't think they work as well as they should with the adapters. But I do think it depends on what you're shooting. If you're shooting portraits, then I would probably say that you need good autofocus. But if you're shooting landscapes, I'd say you shouldn't be using autofocus at all, it should be all manual focus. So if that's the case, it shouldn't be an issue at all.

And yes, you would be able to use your canon lenses on the a7. But once again, you need to be careful in making sure that you actually have full frame lenses because you might not be able to use all of them when you go to full frame.

Switch to sony is definitely worth it. i was a hardcore canon user i tried using sony cameras couple of times and never liked them. but i was gifted a sony A6300 last year and i started using it because it was small and goddam now when i get back to canon it feels using the first iphone.
What's your budget anon?
the apsc sony lenses are very cheap. if you want to buy a new camera then wait for one more month as new version is going to come.

Also the best part is you get capture one pro for 50 usd when you get the sony camera. That is a 250 usd discount. i shifted to capture one pro from lightroom and couldn't be happier. As lightroom is now subscription based you can save a lot of money here too.

Take the red pill and buy a film slr. I love my Minolta x700 and XD11. It’s the ultimate in comfy and if you learned how to use a camera properly you’ll be fine. You can’t ask for better quality images and enjoyment from a camera.

Alternatively, you can get a medium format slr or rangefinder. I got my gw690 for $300 and it’s better than a hasselblad medium format digital. Holgas are incredibly fun at $29 too.

I owned a Fujifilm xt1 and mirrorless is great, but if you’re actually decent with photography and not a post production meme, you’ll see zero difference in your final product.

Try something new. There’s nothing more satisfying than developing your own film, holding a 6x9cm negative, getting back cross processes velvia, learning new things and experimenting with films. The digital gear cycle will just eat your soul, you’ll learn nothing, and you won’t improve.

Mah nig. I owned the 35 and 28 Rokkor primes too, sold them for the md zoom 35-70 3.5 and am still amazed by the quality, better than some contemporary 2.8 zooms. The 50mm 1.4 is godly.

Minolta’s SR platform is the only platform I’ve genuinely had difficulty finding flaws with. You can get literally anything you want out of it from full mechanical manual to aperture and shutter priority with cheap and high iq lenses with third party options (RMC tokina is great). Even the flashes are great.

You can get an x700 with flash, 50 1.7, and 35-70 for less than a hundred bucks and be all set, or get ultra premium everything and an XD for less than 300.

You might be on to something there. I much prefer to shoot with film. The only reasons I keep my A7 around is for work, convenience, and the possibility I might do some astrophotography

Film is the inevitable end of the line for development as a photographer. Taking amazing photos on a $40 camera from the 70s just feels comfy. It feels nice to not be caught up in the digital shilling over $4,500 bodies and meme lenses that are the same optics as vintage ones just with af motors.

I don't use an entry level DSLR. and a7 is not a DSLR. and no matter how butthurt you are, a7 (and the rest of the Sony toys) have a horrible AF which is unsuitable for professional work, child.

I have both C1 (free express, and option to upgrade to pro for $50) that came with my sony mirrorless and a pirated LR+PS combo.

The C1 puts out sharper images that I cannot replicate in LR alone (maybe if I went autism mode for each image with PS and used special plugins and spend 30m on each image). HOWEVER, C1 has NO workflow with PS. This limitation alone is keeping me from moving to C1 exclusively.

In summary, C1 > LR, but LR + PS > C1 (for now)
