I own 24 or 25 different cameras, can’t remember. I would have to say my flexaret is my top favorite, beautiful design and I absolutely adore TLRs, but my Nikon Df is the one I use the most.

I never own more than a couple of cameras at a time. If I can’t see myself shooting with something regularly I’ll sell it. At the moment we’ve got a Yashica-Mat 124, Olympus XA, Canon EOS5, Kodak Retina & Retinette and a Canon Sureshot. Of those I only really use the Yashica and my gf cycles between the different 35mm ones.

The F100 by a long shot. The Df is nice and does some really cool shit but the F100 has a GOAT 100% viewfinder and it feels right in the hands.

If I had to shoot 35mm for the rest of my life that would be the camera to do it.

Honorable mention to the 4x5, I haven't done much with it I'm still learning to not suck and make a decent picture with it but shooting on a camera of that size is absolute magic, you realize you are using the same methods the OG's of photography 100 years ago were using. It's almost like being in a time machine.

Image quality isn't bad it's on par with an XA, but the only way they could make it any smaller is if it took APS film. It's so tiny and I loved mine to bits, it got traded away in a huge equipment swap a few years ago. I might have to go get one.

My favourites has to be the 5d mk4 and xc15. Both shoot canon log and match perfectly. 1 is amazing for photos. The other is amazing for video. I take them everywhere.

Pentax 645n every two months when I decide I must not have "gotten" medium format and decide to try again

Its a toy camera with a fixed 1/60th and 3 aperture settings for sunny, partly cloudy, and overcast plus a pinhole and bulb shutter setting. Zone focusing and plastic lens. A lot less robust than the holga. I got the 35mm film back for mines that come with “panoramic” guides as well as a guide that allows you to shoot through the spockets.

Favourie is the x100, peolple smile when I point it at them.

The Brownie and Polariod are true meme cameras, (need to get a 110 instamatic too, just because... maybe an Olympus Trip). I've had a couple of Nikon d40s in the past, another meme camera although the Canon Rabal series probably out memes it.

The d7000 (yes it's old) is a machine. Nothing else. It is designed to intimidate. My brother got a new phone the other week (Samsung Galaxy "x"?). This is the new peoples camera. It takes great photos with a single button press. Like the Brownie from a centuary ago.

Use the a7 and CLE most often. a7ii when I am doing something serious.

Highly recommend CLE. A joy to shoot. Keep mine loaded with Venus or Natura and bring in everywhere with me.

Shit, I forgot to mention my favourite is the F100 for usability. I don't have that much experience, but it just doesn't whatever I need to do with it and I've never been let down by it. The Nikkormat has a solid robust feel to it, but I need to replace the light seals and the meter gives me a massive underexposure reading (too sensitive? A tech offered to fix it but I don't know if its something I can do by shorting the battery's voltage to something lower)

I’m very happy with my kit, all the cameras get steadily used. My favorite is probably the Bessa R2 but the Pen FV is great too, I just haven’t shot it nearly as much yet. Probably upgrading the Bessa to a Leica next year though and leaving the Bessa as a backup body, it’s just not quite so robust and the RF seems to get knocked out of calibration too easily.

Want to get more into medium format next year. Have had the Pentax for a while, but it’s a bit difficult as a daily camera because it’s so heavy. I do like the Pentax otherwise though - I’ve been borrowing a 503cw for a year but honestly the Pentax is just more comfortable to shoot, especially handheld. Looking to get a GA645 for something I can just have in my bag every day when I go to work.

I know many people whose film kit is pretty much one body and one or two lenses, so it’s not just that. But still, it seems there’s many more relatively open communities among people who shoot film, and I’m not surprised to see that kind of people gather here too, especially certain threads. People are also very open to share whatever knowledge they may have, as there’s a lot more diy spirit than with digital stuff.

Digital is where the competition is focused, so those people are more likely to be hunting for critique, fame and money. Some people probably don’t even want to tell what gear they use so people don’t copy them. I don’t really follow that scene though so I’m just talking out of my ass here, but that’s what I guess is up.

Not saying film isn’t popular with the hypebeast gang at the moment, but they’ll probably drop it when it goes out of style and go after the next thing. I suspect CCD digicams will be one direction they’ll go.

I really love the engineering of cameras and I think I got bit by a bug because now I am manic for building them. Got this for Christmas, little shitty build kit of a camera.
So I'll dump the build process.

P.S. I have a Sony Alpha390 DSLR and an old camera that I'll take a pic of tomorrow, maybe do some research on it.

Plastic is pretty cheap, but it seems mostly well cast. Just small pieces of flash on some pieces, easily removed.

These dials and bits are all for controlling the film as it winds through.
The piece on the right winds the film, the piece in the middle guides the film and marks on the other side show when a frame of film has fully past.
Left piece is the film reel holder.

Shutter completed. Controlled with a lever on the front of the case. Spring loaded. Washer screws need fine tuning to make sure nothing jams.

Yeah it's pretty cheap. I think the kit is around £20.
But like I said, on a engineering high right now so I did some googling.

Build your own camera kits.
1) Konstruktor - Pretty cheap and seems easy to build. Extention kits for flash bulbs and lenses I believe.
2) Videre - Also cheap, cant tell much about the build of it. But it's a very similar design to the one I built.
3) Last Camera Powershovel - Most expensive of the 3 but probably best quality. Can be bundled with rare film for a bit more cash.

I want to build all of these. May even design my own.

Given the construction, my guess is that the “lens” is a pinhole. Pinhole exposures are long enough that a slow and unreliable human controlling the exposure isn’t a big deal (remember, the difference between a five minute exposure and a 7 minute exposure is less than one stop).

I don't have it with me right now, but I replaced the battery after a bit of research online, but I still can't get a correct reading, and its not reliable enough to just overexpose/underexpose by X and get that proper reading. Though I was able to get spot meterings off my phone pretty easily. I'll see if the battery I have has a voltage on it when I find it again.

Nikon FM2n - It's a fuken tank that won't die. I dropped it once on concrete. No dent, no problem. My heart sank to my stomach for a second upon impact tho.

Olympus XA2 - Compact lightweight silent everyday carry that actually fits the tight font pocket. But sometimes, I forget I'm using a zone-focus camera.

All of them see regular use, except the ancient MF cameras (I have used them just for fun but it's basically a waste of MF film) and some of those 13 in a dozen compacts but I got them from family since I'm 'that nephew who likes photos' and I thought it rude to throw them away. Also the Rapid cameras are rarely used since I have to hand load the canisters and get like 12 exposures on them. The Agfa V250 is a fun camera to shoot none the less though. The second RZ67 is because I bought them as a set and I haven't been able to sell one as of yet.
