It's for the sake of sensor size argument that's pervading every other gear thread. I tried to be as selective as possible, everything cropped to narrowest dimension, resolution downscaled for four of the pics, unscaled for two, each sensor getting same number. Two different sensor sizes only.

Really, I planned of making it simple for first one. Then do a proper one. A hint, then I'm back with answers and another one. And yes, I was a bit nefarious. No full frame at all, no apcs as well... It's in fact m4/3 vs medium format.

Oh wait, none of those images show that? well then sure, I guess crop would have been fine for all of them.

The fuk are you on? Three of these are in MEDIUM FORMAT! It's all about composition. If sensor format was as important for composition, as people say, it should be clear as day comparing it to lowest crop sensor available.

In practical world the difference is shown only in pixel size and sensor sensitivity, and you can circumvent sensor sensitivity with longer exposures and stabilization, everything else is down only to lenses.

This thread is presumably an attempt by the Op to diffuse some of the gear threads by showing how stupid the “FF vs Crop” argument is, not an attempt to create that argument himself. Ie, he’s showing that you can’t really tell the difference.

Of course, I don’t think the tiny crops of vastly different photos he used really let you do this. I’d prefer some full-sized tests. Maybe I’ll go out with my full frame and a similar crop sometime.

OP states "large frame". That's 4x5 and up. Medium is smaller than 4 by 5 inches and larger than 35mm. Crop is smaller than 35mm. Full frame is 35mm.

Medium Format is Fuji's GFX, m4/3 is Olympus EM-1 II. If anyone is interested in originals I can provide them. Resolution in source images makes it immediately apparent which is which.

Now, though this discussion left me without will, I'll still do another. You guys seriously take everything as argument... Was thinking aps-c vs ff, no cropping since they're in same aspect ratio, and same focal distance equivalent.
