Found it quite too heavy for my purposes. The fixed aperture is nice, and the range is perfect, but in the end I got a 300mmF4 and I'm planning to get a 300mmF2.8 at the end of the year. But of course a 200-500 can be still in the plans

Nope, 80-400 is a much better range, and it's also sharper.

I bought it for my GF, and get kinda jealous sometimes...

The 50mm f1.8D is the best performance to price ratio I think. That said, I do own both of them and the 200-500mm is pretty awesome. I can shoot handheld at 1/10 and feel confident that 2 out of 3 shots will be free of motion blur. I use it for sports more than anything.

This has been my favorite shot with it

Second that. Even the 35 1.8 G is pretty great value for money if you think about it.

Also, not to be a pixel peeper but that weird effect (corrected CA?) on the branch just catches my eye as distracting. All that's in focus though is decent.Can't afford long zooms so don't really have any basis for comparison.

I reckon the 35 is pretty damn sharp on crops too. This is a modest crop and I feel the detail in the grating is pretty decent (notwithstanding the so-so ISO of the D7000).

Lel also, just realised I was only shooting my D3100 (its small size pairs perfectly with the 35 for a baggable kit).

No wonder why I thought it had pretty horrid noise haha.

That's 400ISO? It looks like my D3400's 3200ISO with the 18-55mm kit lens. Is there something I'm missing as to why it is so noisy/soft? Aperture maybe?
