My tips for n00bs
>Shoot during the winter months, night comes much earlier
>Easier to shoot with snow on the ground as it will reflect lots of light, cutting exposure times in 3rd, also, the color white is easier to balance than grainy asphalt
>if you dont have a tripod, invest in one now
>the setting/vibe/composition is equally as important as editing, get a good flow with these 2 and youll be pumping out night shots in no-time. Dont take a blurry 30 second exposure of a bridge then expect to fix it in post, go back and re-shoot
>bring pepper spray
