Start by looking at photos you like and learning why they're good. Don't look around flickr or deviantart or places where bad photographers congregate (forums, gear review places), look at really good stuff. The World Press Photo gallery is a good place to start, and paintings aren't bad to look at either. As you look at pictures, think about what the pictures make you feel, and how the photographer accomplished that.

Next step is to learn to use your camera. Understand what shutter speed, aperture, and ISO does to the picture. Practice setting your camera until you can operate it blindfolded. Take lots of photos. Don't worry at this point about how bad your pictures are.

Final step is to put it all together. Look for scenes that interest you, figure out how you want to organize the scene within the boundaries of the picture, then set the camera and take the picture.

Figure out what it is you want, figure out how to get what you want, then do the thing to get the thing.

Review the photos you do take, and analyze what you like and don't like about them.

Find a photographer you like, and try to emulate what you like about them. At this point it doesn't matter if you're copying it exactly. You're training your mind to view things a certain way. Once you get a handle on that style, try the same thing with someone new.

Our 'style' is a culmination of all the influence we've experienced and engaged with.

that's something for a dad, really tiny sensor, bad zoom optic, lack of controls, shitty software that gets in the way...
for that price you can take a really decent semipro used DSLR and actually start learning somethin
