Photography is basically the 20th-21st century's equivalent art form of 18th-19th century Painting, now that painting has become a niche cultural stowaway in MOMA. Whereas painters after the renaissance shy away from just representing reality, and can easily do so by just not drawing it, photographers are basically capturing reality with their lens and, instead of engaging in mimesis of Nature, are framing parts of Nature taken directly from Nature and directly transposing it to art.
