This sounds about right for me when I was starting out, except for the street photography phase (I did go through a period of people photography, I just wasn't awkward about it). Good news is that it only gets better from there.

This is too fucking real, but there was a rose that bloomed a different color every time it came back so I have a gold, yellow, white, red and pink rose.

Not so much, I wanted to but didn't have the patience, tripod or even a shutter cable. Now I love star trails tho.

this, but way before, as I picked up my first SLR and realized 20 of those 26 frames were shit. (Loaded my camera in the dark lul)
>Street Photography Phase
Eh... not really. I just took photos of street whenever I was on the street (given I had something cool to shoot).
>Gear Obsession
I did just sell my EL2 for an FM... so I guess that counts
>Self Hatred Phase
Nope. It's gotten way better. I never go out with a plan so that helps me like my results more. But I do occasionally miss the focus on those "decisive moments".

However this does apply to most my friends, half of them quit...

My brother went through all of these. He used to be the photofag of the family, now he hasn't taken anything in 10 years and deleted all his old stuff. On a holiday he was being sour because I wanted to stop and shoot stuff, complaining how it's not possible to get good enough photos of the sights anyway. He took his camera along but only took some snaps on his phone. To me it seemed somewhere along the way he hit the self critical part so hard it broke his passion and left him with some bitter baggage he still hasn't dealt with.

Fair enough. In that case >>3239136 is probably the best advice. Find a body you like, get a 50mm and something wider like a 35 or a 28. Or just use the kit lens as your secondary. You'll have just about all of your bases covered with those lenses. Honestly you can make most things work with the 50 if you really want to. Just remember that gear doesn't make good shots.

i went into debt during my gear obsession phase. managed to sell some of it off and now i'm at self-hate, everything i shoot is shit, im taking less and less pictures, i've lost the bravery i had in my street photography phase

These all weren't phases to me as things go hand in hand. Bokeh is a thing for portraiture, long exposure for architecture and landscape, street something to convey the mood of a foreign place. And to be honest, every time I try something new I am snapshitter until I know better, my gear is well chosen to my needs and desires, some old work is embarrassing but also great. And last but not least, I have a more critical eye that shows me that my skills often aren't enough. I know it takes luck and opportunity to take an exceptionally good photo more than skill. And I also know that a large number of my photos taken don't need to be top shots and won't mean a thing to uninvolved people

This is literally exactly what I did. Bought a full frame camera and four lenses I use all the time and cover pretty much every focal length I need (I might add a fourth at some point, but for now it's fine). As much as people talk about it being a rabbit hole that deepens as you continue to buy stuff, I'd argue buying stuff I thought was really nice and enjoyed using actually cured the G.A.S. because I haven't made a major camera equipment purchase in three years now.

just only buy new gear if you really need it because you brought your old gear to it's limits for quite some time.
this is an advice in general, not only photography: the assumption that you will put in more work because you bought new cool gear is wrong. only buy expensive stuff if you proved to yourself you really want to go there and your old gear simply can't keep up with what you are doing anymore.

Although the cynic in me knows gearfags (of any field) can't get into this mode of working. It's in part because it's so tempting to blame your gear for your shortcomings instead of yourself. Buying something new is so much easier than having to learn and fail and experiment
In a sense being a poorfag has advantages, working in a system with constraints ironically enough encourages all kinds of creativity
As if anyone would bother as much with efficient use of resources of a program if they had infinite cash to buy the most powerful hardware possible
Just start by stating the problem as "how can I achieve this with what I have"

First there is Leica M with all kinds of special editions. (and expensive lenses)

Then there are all those premium compact cameras.

Then there is the Fuji TX-1.

Then there is Hasselblad.

Then there are medium format rangefinders.

Then there is Linhof.

Then there is Ultra Large Format.

And lastly there are scanners.
