try burning out the top fluorescent lights a little. i feel it's too bright up there and it takes away from the subjects. Also, subjects are a bit soft. It appears you focus was on the empty chairs in front or slightly behind them. I like your contrasts but feel the subjects should be lightened up slightly. Unfortunately, I think you would lose detail since they are not in focus. Your composition is very good; I'm a fan of frames within frames.

Thanks! I unfortunately use glasses and was using a previous prescription, so the focus is a bit wonky. Will try work in the darkroom to darken the fluorescents

A betty good shot

Try underexposing a 1 1/2 stops next time to help preserve some of the details in your bright whites and then in post correcting. You'll get a much clearer picture, and the detail will help pull the 3 dimensions out of it more to help push your composition

That doesn't really follow. Chosis can't tell when a photograph is in focus, so if he says this is out of focus, the logical conclusion is that that statement carries no real information about whether or not the shot is in focus.

And indeed, the shot isn't actually out of focus. It looks to be a low-resolution scan, which is making it look a little blurry, but you can see that the lamps above the bar (slightly foreground) and the shit behind the bar (background) are equally in focus, meaning that the people (who are presumably the main subject) are as in focus as you can get 'em.

blown out background without even using the burn told to add contrast to the subjects face... also if your are going to blow out the backround at least dodge the train some to guide the viewer to the subject. are you shooting this on film? why is there so much noise/grain?

I see the pattern your going for with your photo, but the texture isn;t doing it for me - not as it's composed here. This could've benefited from perfect symmetry (at least straighten your photo) and having the odd meter either dead-center or somewhere according to the rule of thirds. Not sure if the actual place allowed you to frame it that way, but the fact that it's the odd colour out gets lost due to its positioning. Also, it would have helped if you didn't amputate the bottom row.

The sides/margins add nothing and don't need to be there.
The contrast is up its own arse and way too high
The subjects are a guy on a phone and 3 ugly people looking down, two with their eyes obscured and the contrast so high it wouldn't matter if they weren't
There's a large blown out area
We also have no idea why it's black and white but I'd guess it's because your ultra high contrast looked like shit in colour

No reason for it to be in black and white
Blown out sky and particularly the horizon don't add anything and actually take away
Would likely benefit from knocking down the exposure, up the contrast and highlighting those rails
Fairly uninteresting other than the subject

Like the other guy said, straighten it and/or crop/frame properly
Your focus is on the branches and while whatever you did to them and the wall looks good, the subject has no right to be out of focus. The saturation also feels over-done and fake. The clarity is also turned up way too high.

Light works fairly well though.
