There was conscious effort to move from pictoralism in photography.
Making stuff "unconsciously" is the part of postmodernist way of thinking, but it's still an intent.
So there's need to be something that can move medium further which you have to be aware of.

Read all you want about Malevich and discuss it with your art buddies as much as you like. None of it changes the fact that the rooskie painted a black square that means nothing without an explanation. If you can't get the point across without paragraphs explaining the significance of a square, you'd be better off writing.
