Holy hell dude bump the iso up, those 1/60, 1/40, and even 1/30 exposures make many of those pictures fail way more than using higher iso.

Otherwise pretty nice animal pictures.

I actually had the ISO limited to 100 (my camera's minimum), because of something I had been doing before. I just forgot to turn it back up until about a quarter of the way through the zoo.

Sounds exactly like my first Day at the Zoo, when i just got my camera.

Was photographing for about 2 months at that moment and shot around 1000 pics from Aninals. Great place to learn properly expsoing in Manual mode, while also adapting to the changing Situation

Well don't have anything else right now to contribute, since i'm on my phone.

As i said, the zoo is a wonderful place to getting started with photography, or facing new situations.

It's counter measure would be, that everything is a bit staged, since the animals are at the same place all the time, which is why it makes more sense, to actually photograph a feeding session or something

not OP but zoos are great to practice your photography. i live in chicago and we have a free zoo so I would go a few times a week over the summer just to shoot animals

OP, maybe it's just me, but most of your photos look to be about a half stop to a full stop underexposed. Did you fuck with the exposure in Photoshop or is your camera metering them like that?

Also, you'll get much sharper telephoto results increasing your shutter speed, whether you increase the ISO to meter a higher shutter speed for every photo, or whether you keep the ISO low and manually set a high shutter speed to just deliberately underexpose by 2-3 stops with a plan to push the exposure of all your photos in post. A third strategy - what I often do when shooting telephoto wildlife - is to set your camera to manual shutter speed (set it in the 1/500 range, increasing or decreasing depending on focal length and available light) and manual aperture (set it to optimize your lens' sharpness and maximize depth of field if there's enough light) with auto ISO - which is a very useful shooting mode for these kinds of shots (Pentax calls it TAv).
