Canon USM. the "almost" L series

Any love for the ultrasonic canon lenses. I just got my second usm in the mail last week and I think it is a good piece of glass. It's the 28-135. Any thoughts?

...USM isn't a line of lenses. It's the name of the focusing motor. L lenses (most) are USM, too.

Sigh.
Plenty of shit USM glass (like yours isn't exactly a shining diamond, if you're using it on a crop lens it's completely useless as a focal lenght, too.) and plenty of USM glass that isn't REALLY USM (like the god forsaken 50 1.4 which canon refuses to update for no good reason.)

replaced mine with a 24-70 2.8 IS from Tamron, the Tamron is so much better it's ridiculous.

non-L EF lenses are fine but for a bit more you can get some amazing 3rd party glass boyo

It breaks. A lot. But other than that the issue is that it's built exactly like the 50 1.8, the focusing mechanism acts as an air pump that sucks in dust. I never had dust issues with my lenses, treated all the same, but I had two 50 1.8's and they both became full of dust in a year or so (I live in a big dusty city), enough to actually impact quality. The 50 1.4 suffers from the same problem.

Yeah, never had issues with them. I do a shit ton of nightlife with non-sealed lenses with no issues.

The problem is that there's just the right amount of space on the FRONT of the lens to suck air in like a pump, it's not a tiny sliver of space, you could stick items in it.

This lense is pure trash.
Visible optical defects even on 10 year expired Agfa Vista 400. Pic related.
I hate to say it, but the menelta xi in the same focal length fucking trounces this.

The 50 1.4 is completely pointless other than that it's bigger glass than the 1.8
The 50 1.2 is awesome

Are they good ones?

I only have Canon's 15 f/2.8, 28 f/2.8, 50 f/1.4, 100 f/2 and 200mm f/2.8 II.
I've never had an issue with the non-IF lenses, but I haven't used any of my lenses heavily.
