So I'm 7 months in into photography and only now did I start photographing random people on the street. What do you think of this composition and my editing style? I'm kinda aiming for that sort of grainy/film look.. you kn ow.

I thought I wouldn't be getting a response if I posted in that general thread. Happened before. Also I shoot with a DSLR because I don't always edit like this, sometimes I just go for a clean minimal look. Here's another one, I like the first one better.

Any thoughts or critique ???

Okay I just noticed that the girl's head isn't in proper focus. Maybe a f/2.0-f/2.8 would've solved instead of a 1.8

Not too bad. I actually don't mind the meme milky desaturated portra film look, but these images don't work well on their own. You've done well have the two buildings naturally frame your subjects, but the landscape orientation adds no valuable information about the place, nor does it inform on your subjects' interaction with it, so kind of distracting. Could work as a longer series, they don't stand on their own too well.

What did you shoot these with? Give us a quick exif

Thanks for the feedback, I thought the portrait orientation looked rather putrid so I went with that one instead. These images are actually part of a series that are going to be included in a gallup I'm doing right now. I found that nice spot and decided to use that to get even result.

Okay I'll post more and will resize them. I know these are all centered but what the heck, this one's a simple headshot for a magazine. I guess I could use some criticique regarding the editing since the composition is so simple.

Is this a scandinavian country?

The photos are ok, for instance I like the processing in this one >>3266204 and the location.

But you should try something different than centering your subject and shooting away.
Try to use leading lines (especially of you have interesting architecture around), placing your subjects off centre, don't be afraid to include more of the background and interact with it.

It’s a matter of taste, and I’d be the first to admit mine is questionable, but too cool, a bit lacking in contrast, face needs brightening and there’s a couple of spots on her neck and one excessively errant hair above her head (and the rest but I couldn’t be bothered to fix those).

But to be fair I don't think it's necessary for weird crap when it comes to portraiture work, e.g. Samuel Elkins shoots most of his pics centered. But I guess there will be a time when I will stress different viewpoints when I shoot for my own use, these are mainly for a student magazine, and normal people don't know shit about photography. I have older shots where I try different viewpoints but their image quality is so awful that I don't want to post them, actually I'm not sure about the composition either. But here's an older one from an event

My first edit was about along the lines of that, contrasty and warmer but I didn't like the outcome so I stuck to the one I posted.

Here's another portrait, again centered but I try to use leading lines.. post processing is bad compared to my current pics and the face blown by a non-diffused flash is horrible, I use an umbrella nowadays when flash is involved.

These are pretty basic Portrait shots, nothing special or anything. I recommend you to look into portrait of other people a bit more

I guess you didn't read the thread through. It could have been better if I worded my initial post with "what do you think of my editing style", because that's actually the point of this thread. I don't actually give a crap about dem feelz of my photos, because I'm not trying to convey any emotions with them, not like I could with my lack of practice anyway.

it looks incredibly staged and fake. Why don't you try taking their photos more candidly and truthfully? if you are going to take staged photos take them in the studio or use actually hot models
